Power plant equipment manufacturer Bharat Heavy Electricals (Bhel) has commissioned a 195MW thermal power generating unit in Bihar, India.

The commissioning is the first of the two units at 390MW Muzaffarpur Thermal Power Station (TPS).

The thermal facility is owned by Kanti Bijlee Utpadan Nigam (KBUNL) which is a joint venture by NTPC and BSPGCL.

The state-owned power plant equipment manufacturer was responsible for the design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection and commissioning of steam turbines, generators and boilers at the power plant.

The firm also handled the associated auxiliary and electrical work for the facility, along with controls and instrumentation (C&I) and electrostatic precipitators (ESPs).

The firm expects to install and commission the second 195MW unit at the facility within the financial year 2015-16.

The present modifications are a part of its expansion project under which its generation capacity is expected to be raised up to 390MW.

Bhel has recently turned a 660MW supercritical thermal unit operational at Barh in Bihar state. It is the chief supplier for power plant equipment to NTPC and its joint ventures, holding a 72% share in their installed capacity.
